CUSTOM HAND-CRAFTED LOG FURNITURE
In the northeastern corner of Oregon, in a county called Wallowa, we at BLH Construction employ a few expert woodworkers to create handcrafted log furniture from small diameter pine salvaged from local forests.
Working in a place that's only accessible by two scenic mountain roads, and where the elk still outnumber the humans several to one, has made us feel downright sorry for those trapped in "civilization". And, so we decided to capture a bit of the Wallowa County lifestyle in our furniture, and offer it to you!
We take a good thing and make it better. At BLH, we hand-pick the wood, then dry it slowly and carefully until it has a moisture content of just 6% - quite a bit lower than the industry standard of 10%. Then, we peel the wood by hand, and if you prefer a more rustic look, we can "skip peel", leaving traces of the bark on the logs.
We use only solid wood in all our blue pine furniture and you'll notice that we keep our wood thick, at 1 3/4", using full length logs (as opposed to uniformly cut pieces laminated together) so, the natural beauty of the log's grain and it's natural rounded shape is maintained in the furniture. This means your furniture is truly original and totally unique.
For beds, stools, staircase and deck railing and other pieces, we use lodgepole hand-picked from our forests, never uniform pieces ordered from a mill. That way each log is allowed to lend its own individual charm to the finished piece.
We build bunk-beds in special sizes. We produce armoires, computer desks, bars, benches and countertops. We can do picture frames, mirrors, entertainment units, and toilet paper holders. We also use what we call character wood, those extra burly logs, to make your piece of furniture a true work of art. In short, we can do just about anything you'd like. Of course, we do charge a little extra for custom creations and character wood but, the end result is always worth it.
Because we still do things pretty slow around here, you'll have to be a little patient. But, the end result is this: we have so much confidence in the quality of our products, that we back each one with a limited lifetime guarantee. That means if you buy one of our dressers, and a drawer breaks, we'll replace it, absolutely free. (We can do this because we're certain our drawers won't break, under normal wear and tear.)
Tell us what you want. If you see something you like here, great, we'll be happy to make one especially for you. But, we also welcome your ideas. If you have something in mind you'd like, and don't see it pictured here, give us a call and we'll see if we can help you create the design of your dreams. |
